Arcimboldo, a naturalist or a joker?

Everyone knows the benefits that picture prompts bring to the learning process of a foreign language. So, why not use a masterpiece painting as a visual aid to revise lexis? We all know how difficult it can be to remove paint stains; very often, they are persistent, and no matter how much we try to get rid of them they remain throughout time.
Every teacher would like their pupils to retain what they have learnt and remember how to do things - etched in their memories as if they were paint stains. Not an easy task, as we well know, but we can select classroom tasks that go some way to helping us reach this objective.
In order to revise lexis, select a painting and some pictures. Choose a task – this could be culture based -that students will find interesting and that will elicit the desired vocabulary.

Die « Zertifikation der Kompetenzen » ist ein unerlässlicher Schritt bei der Arbeit an den Kompetenzen. Hier schlagen wir eine Aufgabe mit interdisziplinärem Ansatz vor (Biologie, DaZ, Kunst und Bildgestaltung, Technik), die es den Schülern ermöglicht, aktiv in den Lernprozess einbezogen zu werden und ihr Selbstbewusstsein durch Handlungskompetenz und sowohl Fachwissen als auch allgemeines Wissen zu entwickeln. Zudem verschafft das Lernen der Biologie den Schülern durch Beobachtung und Forschung eine bessere Kenntnis der Umwelt. Um sowohl Fachinhalte als auch die deutsche Sprache zu lernen, kann man den Schülern vorschlagen, ein Herbarium aus Baumblättern zu gestalten. Es handelt sich um eine konkrete Aufgabe, bei deren Umsetzung auch andere Fächer hinzugezogen werden können.

El “certificado de competencias” es fundamental para monitorar las capacidades de los alumnos. Esta tarea se puede proponer desde un punto de vista interdisciplinario (ciencias, español como L2, arte e imagen, tecnología) con la que los alumnos se ven implicados en el proceso de aprendizaje y que les permite desarrollar el “saber ser” a través del “saber hacer” y los conocimientos disciplinares y no disciplinares. Además, gracias al aprendizaje de las ciencias, los alumnos conocerán el medioambiente a traves de la observación y la investigación. Para validar tanto este tipo de aprendizaje como el de la lengua española, la propuesta puede ser crear un herbario de hojas de árboles. Se trata de una tarea práctica que puede realizarse en el ámbito de varias disciplinas diferentes.

Developing key competencies in the classroom is essential if children are to be equipped with the skills and capabilities which will help them do well in life. In this unit plan students are asked to make a herbarium of pressed leaves. This is an interdisciplinary classroom activity which uses science, Italian, art and design and technology. Its completion allows students to play an active role in the learning process and acquire interpersonal skills through doing; it also builds and draws on what they know about natural science through research and observation. In addition, it improves their linguistic skills in Italian. All this is achieved by engaging students in the authentic activity of creating a herbarium.

Un erbario fatto con le foglie di alberi

La «certificazione delle competenze» è un atto indispensabile, un lavoro sulle competenze.   Ecco un compito che può essere proposto in un’ottica interdisciplinare (scienze, italiano L2, arte e immagine, tecnologia) e che permette agli alunni di essere coinvolti nel processo di apprendimento e di realizzare il saper - essere attraverso il saper fare e i saperi disciplinari e non. Inoltre l’apprendimento delle scienze permette agli alunni di conoscere l’ambiente attraverso l’osservazione e la ricerca. Per legittimare questo apprendimento come quello della lingua italiana, si può proporre agli alunni di creare un erbario di foglie d’alberi. Si tratta di un compito reale a cui anche le altre discipline possono concorrere alla realizzazione.
